University Faculty Research Office

Research Thrusts

     The De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSUD) is committed to the development of the society, understanding of the principles governing our physical world and formulation of new ideas and theories through research. Guided by the Lasallian values of religio, mores et cultura, the university research is envisioned to respond to the research needs of Cavite in particular, and the CALABARZON in general. DLSU-D's research impetus is anchored on the University System's thrusts of quality, excellent, relevant and global research agenda in order to contribute to the world's body of knowledge. To attain its research objectives, the institution allows its faculty to be creative, innovative and locally responsive to the holistic development of human beings and their environment. Research undertakings cover disciplines focused on the social, biological and physical sciences, engineering, business and the arts. Moreover, the university is mandated by the DLSU System to focus its research undertakings on three core areas, namely the development of the community, conservation and preservation of the environment and the enhancement of culture and the arts. Community-oriented researches are focused on the formulation of programs which respond to the needs of the community such as local governance, law enforcement, livelihood projects, transfer of technology and extension projects. Research on the environment deals with the preservation of our natural resources, documentation of rare species and program formulation that can be used as models by agencies and institutions promoting the preservation and conservation of the environment. The university is also mandated by the DLSU System to focus its research thrusts on the enhancement of culture and the arts. Researches under this category are on humanities, history, culture, literature and other programs which promote our local and national heritage. The three research core areas are envisioned to be attained by employing collaborative research programs as well as multidisciplinary approach in research. Research reports and outputs shall be disseminated through reputable publications and journals recognized in the academic circle.

College of Business Administration

     The College of Business Administration (CBA) is committed to pursue research as an inherent part of its mandate as shown in its research outputs for the past five years. Each department comprising the college is tasked to contribute to the goals of the college.

     Research efforts of the college are focused on generating research proposals along the three core areas defined in the research agenda of DLSU-D: community development, conservation and preservation of the environment, and enhancement of culture and the arts. Corollary activities as data base establishment, mentoring and partnering, lounge lectures, networking and fund generation, back staffing, curricular upgrading, and special projects will also be undertaken.
Thus, the following are the objectives of the aforementioned target activities:

Data Base Establishment

. To provide information and basis for long term planning on the side of the faculty and vital reference purposes on the part of the studentry
. To avoid recycling of research projects Mentoring and Partnering
. To share the expertise of faculty members in the area of research and partnering or team efforts among faculty to pursue quality research Faculty Research
. To undertake research projects in line with the following areas:
. Community development
. Conservation and preservation of the environment
. Enhancement of culture and the arts Lounge Lecture
. To present research output Back Staffing
. To provide support for the publication of the CBA Research journal and services for the lounge lectures Curricular Updating
. To pertinently revise the research manual for students Special Projects
. To undertake special research projects with other institutions Networking and Fund generation
. To generate funds for research, strengthen existing linkages, and explore international linkages

College of Education

The college offers programs like Bachelor of Secondary Education with majors in English, Filipino, History, Mathematics, Religious Education, Biological Science, and Physical Science. It also offers Bachelor of Elementary Education with the following areas of specialization: Early Childhood Education, Music, Arts, and Physical Education.

The curricula of these programs are designed to address the primary aim of the college to instill in the minds and hearts of future educators the nobility of the teaching profession. As individuals with profound faith in God, with the values of love, respect, trust, confidence, justice, and fairness, and with a deep sense of nationalism, students are expected to contribute to the continuous spiritual, psychological and intellectual growth of the young people, and, eventually the development of the society.

Furthermore, to realize these objectives, the college encourages and strengthens the research skills of its faculty members. The college capitalizes on the following research areas:

. Instructional materials development
. Different learning styles of learners/students
. Different teaching styles of faculty
. Construction of lecture guides in major
subjects


College of Law Enforcement Administration and Public Safety

     The College of Law Enforcement (CLE) recognizes the value of knowledge and its implementation, which is imperative in making the college a center of excellence in the field of law enforcement. Moreover, the college focuses on research areas that address the needs of the community such as local governance and law enforcement.

     Faculty research activities are geared toward finding potent solutions to the problems encountered in local governance and society. Research outputs include the development of new strategies that contributes to the improvement of law and ways of life of the people in Cavite.
    
Therefore, the college looks into the following areas:

. The morality of public officials and employees as mandated by the Republic Act 6713
. The roles of the citizenry in the successful implementation of certain laws for the community
. The effectiveness of the traffic schemes of the Traffic Management Group (TMG) and the Cavite Traffic Management Office (CTMO) in the province of Cavite
. The dissemination of information on the current status of human trafficking in order to protect victims and to prevent the crime
. The awareness of the community of the Republic Act 9165
. The governance status of barangay councils in preventing crime and the reformatting of existing programs for further improvement

College of Science

     The College of Science (COS) conforms to the university's commitment to the development of society, the understanding of the principles governing the physical world, and the formulation of new ideas and theories through research.

     The college commits to respond to the research needs of CAVITE and the whole CALABARZON by focusing on excellent and relevant researches through developing research consciousness and skills among its faculty members.

     It is the goal of the college to benchmark on the advances of basic and applied scientific researches. Further, it aims to take part in revitalizing education through transfer of productive learning; and in guiding local communities to discover natural resources that improve their livelihood without sacrificing the natural environment and the well-preserved cultures.

     Realizing the vital role of the college in mapping out a direction towards transformation, the college sets its research priorities set to promote the latest trends in biological, physical, mathematical, and computer sciences and their appropriate applications in the following areas:

. education, industries, and researches;
. protection, conservation, preservation, and restoration (PCPR) of the natural environment;
. proper use of resources by the community vis-a-vis ecological balance;
. scientific contribution to indigenous knowledge of culture

Behavioral Science Department

The research agenda of the Behavioral Science Department (BeSD) are developed to address the research needs as well as to utilize the expertise of the faculty members of the department. These agenda reflect the department's commitment to the research enterprise as articulated in DLSU-D's three-fold research thrust: community development, conservation of the environment, and the enhancement of culture and arts. Within this context, BeSD identifies its own research thrusts and research training:

. Psychology (specifically Counseling Psychology)
The department trains professionals in the field of
counseling. Moreover, a potential linkage with the
Human Dynamic Asia Pacific of Singapore has been
arranged.
. Sociology and Anthropology ( particularly
youth-related issues such as sexuality, alcoholism, HIV/
AIDS, gender, etc.) The department plans to initiate
surveys to determine the perception of the DLSU-D
students and the faculty members on the
aforementioned issues.
. Art Appreciation (specifically survey of literature
in art to aid faculty members in teaching art appreciation
classes effectively) The department plans to create a
data base of all art materials needed in the teaching of
this course.
. Community Development (specifically poverty
alleviation initiatives in Cavite) Socially-disadvantaged
local communities analyze their socio-economic status
through baseline studies.
. Research Training (specifically research
methodology) Seminars and workshops have been
proposed to develop skills in undertaking research
writing.
. Appreciation of Research Findings. The
department endeavors to instill in each faculty member
the importance of research. Every department meeting
starts with a report on research findings in any field.
Furthermore, it has been discussed and approved that
projects for students be research based.

Languages and Literature Department

     Corollary to the institutional and collegiate research thrusts and guided by the Lasallian values of religio, mores, and cultura, the Languages and Literature Department will respond to the research needs of Cavite in particular and the CALABARZON in general. Thus, the department is envisioned to be a pioneer and leader in productive and responsive research projects on local languages, literature, and the community through collaborative research paradigms.

The following are the main objectives of the department:

. To identify and address the needs of the region
. To uphold the distinct culture of Cavite through an extensive and an intensive observation on the current trends and issues on language and literature to further preserve the heritage of Cavite

Languages and Literature Department

     Research is one of the pillars of an academic institution. It is a source of new ideas, theories, and information for the development of the society.

     The Social Sciences Department (SSD) is committed to DLSU-D's research agenda to respond to the needs of the CALABARZON, specifically Cavite.

     Thus, the department aims to align its research agenda with the mandate of the DLSU System focusing on the development of the community, conservation and preservation of the environment, and the enhancement of culture and the arts. Likewise, the following are the research thrusts of SSD:

. Research is necessary in the formulation of new ideas, theories, and programs of the community.
. Research responds to the needs of the society; and
. Each faculty member is challenged 'to be creative, to be innovative, and to be locally responsive to the holistic development of the people in the community.

     The University Faculty Research Office (UFRO) would like to invite the other colleges and departments to submit their research agenda for further compilation. The office would greatly appreciate to see the inclusion of a brief overview about the college and its departments as an introduction to the research agenda.
