Sections and Services

Reference and Information Section
           
        The Reference and Information Section stores  encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, gazetteers, yearbooks, corporate files, government issuances, university catalogs, United Nations, Asian Development Bank Collection, Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP) and the La Salliana collections. Computer terminals are assigned for the use of electronics encyclopedias and other references available in CD format.

Facilities

        There are 5 computers in this section for accessing encyclopedias and other reference materials in electronic format.

Borrowing Privileges

All materials in this section are for room use only, however, these materials may be photocopied.

Periodicals Section 

        This section houses all local and foreign magazines, journals and newspapers.  Back issues of subscribed journal are bound and arranged alphabetically according to titles.  The section also allots computers to access online databases, and back issues of newspapers which are available in DVD-ROM.

Facilities

        Four computers in this section are available for accessing on-line newspapers, journals in CD-ROM format, Open Access E-journals and subscription database such as Emerald.

Borrowing Privileges

        All materials in this section are for room use only, however, these materials may be photocopied.

Reserve and Humanities Section

        The Reserve section contains books that are prescribed by the faculty members for their courses. Bibles, philosophy books and Rizaliana books are also located in this section.

        The Humanities section houses books on architecture, communication arts, mass media, journalism, photography, languages, literature, religion and fiction.

Borrowing Privileges

        Students are allowed to borrow two (2) books at a time for a period of one week from Humanities collection. However, reserve books are generally for room use only. They may be borrowed by students for overnight use after 3:00 p.m. and should be returned not later than 10:00 a.m. the following day.

Fines and Fees

  • Borrowers with overdue books must settle their accounts before borrowing/renewing books.
  • A fine of P10.00 a day is imposed for every overdue book while P1.00 per hour or P12.00 per day for reserved books.

Filipiniana Section  

        The Filipiniana section houses printed materials on various subjects about the Philippines or any related topic to the Philippines regardless of author, imprint, and format. There are four special collections that are also included in this section: Dr. Isagani Cruz Collection (IRC), Dr. Lakandupil Garcia Collection, Regional Literature Collection and Local History Collection.

Borrowing Privileges

        Students are allowed to borrow two (2) books at a time for a period of one week. Filipiniana-Reference and Special Collection materials may be photocopied but cannot be borrowed for home use.

  • Borrowers with overdue book/s must settle their accounts first before borrowing/renewing books.

Science and Social Science Section

        The Sciences section houses books on mathematics, computer science, physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, agriculture, engineering, technology and military science.

        The Social Science Section houses books on psychology, biography, world history, tourism, hotel and restaurant management, anthropology, physical education, statistics, business, economics, management, marketing, accounting, advertising, sociology, criminology, political science, education, law and library science.

The Graduate School Corner

        The graduate school corner is located near the social science section. All references prescribed by the graduate studies are housed separately.

Facilities

        Five computers with internet access are available for graduate student researchers.

        Students in the graduate program are allowed to borrow five (5) books at a time for the period of one week.

  • Borrowers with overdue books must settle their accounts before borrowing/renewing books.
  • A fine of P10.00 a day is imposed for every overdue book while P1.00 per hour or P12.00 per day for reserved books.

Archives and Special Collection  

        The Archives and Special Collection is the unit of the library that houses the official university records, university publications, theses collection in print and in electronic format of both graduate and undergraduate students, rare books, memorabilia, preservation copy of Lasalliana collection and publish work written by the faculty member of the university.

  • All materials in this unit are strictly for room use only.
  • Only abstract of theses and dissertation is allowed for photocopying.
  • The use of University records requires permission from the offices/unit/department that created such records

        Computer terminals are available for locating thesis collection in bibliographic format or in full text thru EASCA database.

Educational Media Services

        The Educational Media Services (EMS) houses and circulates educational media materials such as video cassette and audio-cassette-tapes, transparencies, slides, kits, maps, charts, and VCD. It is equipped with multi-media, overhead, slide and opaque projector, video cassette player and recorder, television monitor and wide screen. It is also in charged of the schedule and maintenance for the viewing rooms and  discussion rooms.

Borrowing Privileges

  • All requests for EMS materials and services should be filed at least 24 hours prior to the date of the need.
  • Reservation of viewing room and other function room is on a first come first serve basis.
  • EMS materials such as VHS and audiotapes, slides, transparencies, maps, chart are strictly for viewing room or classroom use only.
  • Reservation forms are available online through the DLSU-D website and at the EMS Office.

Facilities

  • Two fully air-conditioned theater type viewing rooms which can accommodate 89 students or two classes each with television monitor, VHS/VCD players, multimedia, computers, and sound system
  • University meeting room is also available which can accommodate a maximum of 20 participants.
  • Discussion rooms that can be used for small group discussions, theses defense and meetings; These rooms can accommodate 8-10 students. 

Technical Services

        The Technical Services Unit is in charge of acquisition, cataloging and classification of library materials.  Mechanical processing of all library materials such as accessioning, bar coding, providing book pockets, book cards, date due slips, and printing of call numbers are done in this unit.  It also maintains shelf-list catalog and encoding of data in the AEA OPAC.

Electronic Resource Services

        Formally introduced on June 1998, the Electronic Resource Services (ERS) adapts to the changing needs in library computerization and information technology.

        This unit lodges the CD-ROM collection, multimedia and other materials on electronic format. A CD catalog of more than 1000 titles is available. At present, it has 149 computer units and a local area network library database server. All computers are hooked to the internet.

        The unit is also in charge of maintaining and updating the OPAC and different library databases. It is also responsible for the repairs and maintenance of the computers in the AEA.

        The unit provides innovative information solutions, publication and promotion mediums, and other library computerization/digitization projects.
