Gementiza @ national, regional, and provincial seminars

AEA Director Sonia Gementiza has been very busy these days. First, she was invited by the Philippine Association of Academic and Research Librarians to talk about “Information Commons: Creating New Library Spaces, Enhancing Access to Digital Sources, and the Future of the Reference Desk” on April 23-25 at San Jose, Puerto Princesa City. Her lecture looks at the trends that will better prepare librarians and other information professionals in the next wave of societal, cultural and technological changes in providing effective and efficient services in libraries and information centers.

Gementiza also spearheaded the Network of Calabarzon Educational Institutions’ 2nd Regional Seminar-Workshop on “Library 2.0: Challenges and Prospect for Information Professionals” on May 16-17 at the AEA Luis Aguado Viewing Room and Electronic Resource Services room. She also discussed “Machine Readable Cataloging (MARC): New Direction in Library and Information Services” on May 17.

She also then organized a Seminar-Workshop on Basic Library Management held on May 26-28, 2008 at the Old Session Hall, Provincial Capitol, Trece Martires City. The three-day seminar-workshop was an outreach program of the Cavite Librarians Association, Inc. where she was installed as the new president after the resignation of Connie Permanejo of Cavite State University.

And finally, she served as a resource person for Electronic Information Solution’s “13TH MARC 21 Workshop ‘Reloaded’” at St. Louis College-La Union, Lingsat, San Fernando City on May 29-30

In spite of her day-to-day work as director of Aklatan and writing research proposal for her doctoral degree, Gementiza carried out all of these activities successfully. When asked how she did all of these things, she said, “My desire to share knowledge to my fellow librarians and love for the profession inspired me to do all of these.”
