POLCA holds community outreach

It was a day out of the ordinary for the children of Barangay Burol Main, at Dasmariñas, Cavite. Indeed, it was a celebration of sorts as they were treated to fun games and to free nutritious pasta soup, buns and juice courtesy of POLCA, the official parents organization of De La Salle University-Dasmariñas.

The outreach activity, held on April 26, was dubbed “Feeding Program for Indigent Children of Barangay Burol Main.” In coordination with the barangay captain, Nestor Jarin, and though the efforts of POLCA Board secretary Peace Reyes, who is a resident of the area, the activity started as early as 7:00 in the morning at the Barangay Burol Main Elementary School. The project was the brainchild of POLCA Board vice president Dr. Carmelyn Antig and approved by the organization’s Board of Trustees headed by its president Engr. Jaime Valdez.

Participated in by about a hundred children aged 4-10 years old, the event featured fun games like pabitin and basagin ang palayok for which prizes were given away in the form of goodies, candies, canned goods and food stuff.

Also, POLCA donated a souvenir electric fan for use at the Barangay Hall, and some used clothes for the residents.

POLCA was satisfied with the turnout of its activity as the officers witnessed the happiness on the children’s faces and received the gratitude of the parents. It hopes to conduct similar activities in the future.
