Museo De La Salle holds workshop on Preventive
Conservation of Cultural Objects
Dasmarinas,
Cavite - Museo De La Salle and the National
Commission for Culture and the Arts will sponsor a seminar
-workshop entitled Preventive Conservation of Cultural
Objects, Zaguan area of Museo De La Salle, October 20-
22.
The workshop
aims to create awareness on the
participants role as caretakers of the Filipino cultural
heritage, develop their conservation skills and provide
them with the relevant knowledge on the conservation
and preservation of their own collections.

the workshop is open to fifty participants on a

LLPs first Cavite national Lit confab set at DLSU-D

Dasmariñas, Cavite The Linangan ng Literatura ng
Pilipinas (LLP) has set its first Cavite National Literature
Conference at the Tanghalang Julian Felipe of De La Salle
University-Dasmariñas on October 16-17, 2003. The event
was made possible through the efforts of Dr. Efren R.
Abueg, DLSU-D resident writer and LLP president, and in
cooperation with DLSU-Ds Cavite Studies Center.
Guest speakers
include some of the countrys finest
teachers, writers and critics such as Professor Ferdinand
Lopez and Dr. Florentino Hornedo from the University of
Santo Tomas, Dr. Vivencio Jose, Dr. Ma. Crisanta Nelmida-
Flores, Dr. Lily Rose Tope, Dr. Thelma Arambulo and
Professor Jimmuel Naval from the University of the
Philippines. Dr. Angelito Santos, president of the Philippine
Folklore Society, Dr. Elmer Ordoñez of the National
Commission on Culture and the Arts and Professor Romeo
Dizon, vice dean of the Manila Times School of
Journalism are also resource speakers.
They will
discuss the meaning, importance and implications
of local Literature in national development, critical theory
and practice in the teaching of local literature, teaching
ASEAN literature, teaching world literature, and application
of literary theories, among others. Further, the conference
will provide a venue for addressing the challenges of
teaching Literature to a digital generation batch of
learners.
The conference
is open to Literature teachers, graduate
students, creative writers, translators and critics. For

Whats up at Museo De La Salle?

CaviteDe La Salle University-Dasmariñas
Museo De La Salle will hold a series of exhibitions,
lectures and seminars beginning October until November
2003.
On permanent
exhibits are the D.M. Guevara Collection
that features antique family heirlooms of circa 19th
and 20th century furniture, furnishings, applied and
fine arts and family lifestyle accoutrements. The
collection pays to tribute to the Filipino artisan of
the 19th century Philippines.
The Barot
Saya: Evolution of the Filipina Dress
exhibition features 20 free standing mannequins and 11
portraits of Filipinas wearing traditional dresses
from the trafje de mestiza to the Terno. These were
worn on different occasions from the 19th century to
the post-war period.
Meanwhile,
Museo De La Salles upcoming seminars
include Seminar Workshop on Preventive Conservation of
Museum Objects, to be held on October 20-22. The
Philippine Association for Scientific conservation of
Cultural Property, Inc. (PASCON) will facilitate the
seminar. Further, I Love Museums by John Silva is a
lecture that aims to promote museum appreciation among
the public school teachers in Cavite province. The
event is slated on November 15.
Museo De
La Salle is open Tuesday thru Saturdays, 9am

for Gawad Bayani 2004
Dasmariñas, CaviteDe La Salle University-Dasmariñas
(DLSU-D) once again embarks its annual search for
outstanding Caviteño who epitomizes the
characteristics of a modern-day herocommitted to
serving people and living model of Filipino and
Lasallian values.
Gawad Bayani,
now on its 12th year, was conceptualized
to give recognition to those people who have achieved
great things and have shown distinguished courage and
noble qualities but has remained obscure.
The search
is open to any Filipino citizen whose roots
can be traced to Cavite. A nominee must have
outstanding achievements or services for the growth
and development of society with emphasis on Cavite.
These may be either in the fields of agriculture,
arts, athletics, business, community service,
education, engineering, government service, industry,
law, medicine and science (including environmental
science).
Further,
according to the selection criteria, the next
Gawad Bayani must possess the following: exemplary
integrity and morality in both public and private
life, a living model of the values and beliefs
cherished by the Lasallian family including selfless
service to the community, promotion of justice and
peace, concern for the poor, commitment to excellence
in ones area of endeavor, a strong Christian faith
and a compassionate attitude and caring behavior
toward others.
The next
Gawad Bayani will be given appropriate honors
during DLSU-Ds annual commencement exercise on March
2004.
