CMRLinks director reads paper on e-learning

Aimed at encouraging Biology teachers to modernize teaching through e-learning, Dr. Jimmy Masagca, director of the Center for Multidisciplinary Research and Linkages (CMRLinks), delivered a paper titled “Why do we have to talk about the integration of e-learning in teaching Biology?: Pedagogical and Technological Considerations” during the 39th Annual National Biology Teachers Association Convention and Scientific Sessions held at the Northwestern University, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, April 1-3.

Masagca shared his insights and experience in integrating e-learning in teaching. These include enriching the resources for teaching Biology, maximizing the use of computers, gathering data and sharing of resources anytime and anywhere.

Further, the paper addressed the current issues that influence the teaching of Biology via the internet. The main issue raised was the digital divide. Among the factors that contribute to this problem are the lack of sufficient funds to purchase computers, lack of computer skills by the teachers and passive reception of some schools on e-learning opportunities and benefits.

Meanwhile, Marlon Pareja, faculty of the Biological Sciences Department, read a paper titled “Toxicity, Bioaccumulation and Histopathological Effects of Nitrates” during the concurrent sessions.
