Upon
DLSU-Ds initiative
CYWA convenes for the first time
For
the first time, young writers from different high schools, colleges
and universities in Cavite gathered to formally launch the Cavite Young
Writers Association (CYWA) at the Kalipayan Resort, Dasmariñas,
Cavite, September 20.
Primarily, CYWA hopes to promote local literature, organize or
consolidate Cavite writers, uphold traditions of past great Caviteño
writers and eventually help Cavite writers gain the recognition they
deserve, Earl Vincent Octaviano, one of the members of the CYWA
board of directors and also a literary writer of DLSU-Ds Heraldo
Filipino, stated.
Literary geniuses also gathered at the convention, which was spearheaded
by distinguished writer and DLSU-D writer-in-residence Dr. Efren Abueg.
Ricardo Sayas, Placido Parcero Jr., Armando Javier of Liwayway Magazine,
Ben Castillo Ugali, Ben Saulog, Nestor Barco and award winning fictionist
Jimmuel Naval shared words of inspiration and encouragement to participants
coming from member schools such as Blessed Mary Academy, Cavite State
University, Immaculate Conception Academy, San Sebastian College, Southern
Luzon College, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Theresian
School of Cavite and Imus Institute, among others.
CYWA members could look forward to proposed projects which include workshops,
seminars, CYWAs own website and newsletter, a literary journal
featuring members works and a literary clinic to hone members
writing prowess.
CYWA is the offshoot of the First Cavite Creative Writing Workshop sponsored
by the Cavite Studies Center in June.
