AEA leads Nat’l Book Week celebration

Exciting activities await the academic community as
Aklatang Emilio Aguinaldo (AEA) leads the university’s
celebration of the National Book Week on the last week of
November.

With this year’s theme Aklat at Aklatan: Kaakibat sa
Aktibong Karunungan Tungo sa Pambansang Kaunlaran, the
festivity will open with a book drive and a mini trade fair
on November 24 at the AEA gallery. Likewise, local and
foreign films will be shown daily. They include So Close,
The Killing Fields, The Ring, Anti Trust, Tanging Ina, The
Recruit, The Devil’s Own, Shanghai Knights, Grease, Tears
of the Sun, Spy Game, Maid in Manhattan, Wasabi,
Simone, Replikate, Changing Lanes and Children of a
Lesser God.

To boost camaraderie and sportsmanship among the library
staff, a sportsfest will be held on November 25 at
Robinsons Place in Imus, Cavite.

Kapihan sa Aklatan, a discussion focused on the
celebration’s theme is set on November 27 at the Severino
Lapidario Boardroom. Students and faculty members from
Development Studies, Economics and Social Sciences
departments will participate in this activity.

To enhance the students’ skills on the use of electronic
resources, the library will hold a hands-on training entitled
How to Use the Basic Electronic Resources” on November

28 at the Electronic Resources Service room.

AEA’s celebration of National Book Week is in coordination
with the College of Liberal Arts, Friends of the Library,
Lasallian Community Development Center and the
University Student Council.


Masagca presents paper in Thailand

Dr. Jimmy Masagca, director of the Center for
Multidisciplinary Research and Linkages and professor of
the Graduate School of Education, Arts and Sciences,
presented a paper titled Science Teachers and Coastal
Dwellers Perceptions on Mangrove Biodiversity
Conservation in the 6th International Conference of
Environmental Management of Enclosed Coastal Seas
(EMECS) at the Montien River Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand,
November 18-21.

In Dr. Masagca’spresentation, he discussed the results of
his studies on mangrove biodiversity, the global issue of
mangrove biodiversity loss and the importance of science
teachers and people’s perceptions as part of policy
formulation/implementation/evaluation for mangrove
conservation in the Philippines.

The 6th EMECS international confab was attended by
international researchers, government and industrial
representatives, non-governmental organizations and
other private sectors.


Calairo, Unabia attend nat’l history confab

Cavite Studies Center (CSC) Director Emmanuel Calairo
and Social Sciences Department Chair Teresita Unabia
attended the 24th National Conference on Local and
National History of the Philippine National Historical
Society. The convention was held on November 20-22 at
the Eva Macapagal Passenger Terminal Building in Port
Area, Surigao City.

Continuing the tradition of encouraging systematic studies
on local and national history, this year’s conference
focused on Philippine Cultural History and The Ethno-
history of Mindanao & Sulu.

Hosted by the Surigaonon Heritage Center, Inc., the
conference featured paper presentations on literature, art
studies, culture and traditions, archeology (prehistory),
anthropology, demography, politics and governance.
It also had an optional study tour or Lakbay Aral for the
participants.

CSC, together with Cavite State University, will host next
year’s conference.
