13 No. 25 November 17-22, 2003 DPH demolished CET building construction starts To further upgrade the universitys facilities and accommodate the growing student population, the old Don Placido Campos Hall (DPH) was demolished to give way to the construction of the new College of Engineering and Technology (CET) building. The groundbreaking ceremonies held on November 18 marked the beginning of the construction of the new structure. The eight-storey CET building, with architectural and structural costs of Php106.8 M, will feature state-of-the-art classrooms, laboratories and an exhibit hall, all set with modern facilities and equipment such as internet-ready computers, cameras and elevators. According to Engr. Mario Medina, Physical Facilities Office director, the projects scope of work is divided into four phases. Phase 1 covers the construction of the three basement levels, the ground floor and the second floor, which are expected to be operational by May 2004. Construction of Phase 2 starts from the third floor to the fifth floor, while Phases 3 and 4 include the total completion of the building by 2006. Medina added that a new structure would be built outside the CET building that will permanently house the Kapatiran ng Bagong Lakas ng Isipan, Kaunlaran at Tatag (otherwise known as KABALIKAT) canteen and office. Extra Value Construction Corp. is the projects contractor, while J.P. Unay & Partners is its structural designer. Back to ICO home |
