Garcia is Metrobank’s outstanding teachers finalist; wins KWF’s writing tilt

Dr. Lakandupil Garcia of the College of Liberal Arts and Graduate School of Education, Arts and Sciences was named finalist in Metrobank Foundation’s Search for Outstanding Teachers 2002, a nationwide search for distinguished educators in all disciplines from primary, secondary and tertiary levels. He was also second runner-up in the recent Essay Writing contest (professional category) sponsored by the Komisyon ng Wikang Filipino (KWF).

DLSU-D nominated Garcia to Metrobank Foundation’s search because of his academic accomplishments and his previous citation as Gawad Guro 2000 awardee.
The search was divided into three phases—preliminaries, semi-finals and finals. Achievements and accomplishments of nominees in the past 10 years were evaluated in the preliminary phase. In the semi-final stage, candidates were screened through a 15-minute teaching demonstration held at the Metrobank Plaza in Makati.

From 222 nominees, the number was trimmed down to five finalists, which included Dr. Garcia. The final screening was done through an interview by a panel chaired by Department of Education Secretary Raul Roco.

“I am very thankful for the administration’s support,” said Garcia. “It has been a great opportunity for me to enter the finals and the experience was certainly morale-boosting. Indeed, it is a prestige to represent the university.”

Meanwhile, KWF’s essay writing contest was a competition of literary criticisms of any Rogelio Sikat literature. Garcia’s first attempt to join a writing contest in literary criticism through his entry Katarsis: Isang Paghahawi ng Dagat ng Kawalang-Pag-asa sa Dulang “Moses, Moses” ni Rogelio Sikat turned out to be a success.

Together with the other contest winners, Garcia was acknowledged by KWF in an awarding ceremony on August 30 at the Bayview Park Hotel on Roxas Boulevard.
Garcia is a holder of Ed.D in Educational Administration and is presently writing his dissertation for his Ph.D in Translation. He is a full-professor and has been serving DLSU-D for 11 years.
