Inaugurated on June 23, 2001 during the 350th year of commemorating
the birth of St. John Baptist De La Salle, Residencia La Salle was originally
built to house the members of the Philippine District Lasallian Animation
and Formation Team (LAFT) and to serve as the creative center and symbol
of the solidarity and support given by the academic community of DLS-D
to the work of the Philippine Lasallian Family in the Philippines and
abroad. Just this year, due to the evolving nature of the District's
program, the LAFT has been decentralized and regionally-based, bringing
forth an all-lay partner community to take care of the Lasallian Family
concerns in DLS-D.
Located
at the East Campus near Museo De La Salle, Holy Rosary Chapel and Aklatang
Emilio Aguinaldo, the Residencia La Salle is part of the Cultural Heritage
Complex of DLS-D.
Guided
by Brother Animators Br. Edmundo Fernandez FSC and Br. Raymundo Suplido
FSC, the members of the Residencia La Salle Community include DLS-D
Executive Vice President Estrellita Gruenberg, Lasallian Partners Office
Executive Director Josefina Burgos, Lasallian Volunteer Program National
Coordinator Roselyn Sumande, Lasallian Family District Justice and Peace
Commission Coordinator Yuri Cipriano, Residencia La Salle Director Helen
Mijares and Lasallian Partners Office Staff Margie Montuno.
The community
is the realization of the vision of the Lasallian District to empower
laypersons as guarantors of the Lasallian mission and to reappropriate
and reinforce Lasallian principles in the fields of school management,
formation, pedagogy, advocacy, pastoral ministry and volunteerism.
Despite
their diverse backgrounds, the lay-partners have been bonded by a strong
and growing commitment to spread the Lasallian charism and mission.
They have expressed their common mission by sharing not just work, but
also prayers, leisure, and other apostolic activities.
True enough,
the Residencia, as people fondly calls the community, serves as a haven,
where lay partners grow personally and receive sustenance, care and
help from one another. It is also an oasis where common and differing
viewpoints about the Lasallian way of life surge and personal journeys
flow.
This unity
in diversity - as each member lives out different forms of Christian
commitment - does not only enrich the Residencia La Salle Community
but the different ministries they serve as well. Undeniably, the Lasallian
spirit continues to be at work in and through the people who embrace
the mission started by St. La Salle.
Offices
led by the Residencia members
The Lasallian
Partners Council (LPC) serves as the non-FSC counterpart of the District
Council. The LPC acts as an advisory body to the Visitor on matters
relating to the Lasallian Family and Mission in the Philippines. Furthermore,
it also provides direction for the Lasallian Family Office, the Lasallian
Animation and Formation Team, the District Justice and Peace Commission,
and the Lasallian Volunteer Program, as well as liaises with other Lasallian
Associations.
The District
Justice and Peace Commission (DJPC) is committed to the integral evangelization
of disenfranchised groups: those who have been deprived of the fullness
of life, those who suffer from absolute poverty, and specifically the
youth who are most vulnerable and constantly at risk.
The Lasallian
Volunteer Program (LSVP) is a community of Lasallian Lay Missionary
Volunteers who commit their expertise, talents, and skills to the service
of marginalized communities, thereby attaining fullness of life for
all.
The Lasallian
Animation and Formation Team (LAFT) is a community of La Salle Brothers
and lay mission partners created to respond actively to the call of
the Holy Spirit who inspired the First Lasallian District Synod to risk
lives for the youth at risk. Acutely aware of and disturbed by the desperate
and worsening situation of the poorest members of our society, LAFT
realizes the urgency to assist in forming and animating a vibrant Lasallian
Filipino Family with special attention to the adult communities.
