Two books, touching on Cavite 's history – Edukasyong Pampubliko: Ang Karanasan ng Kabite, 1898 – 1913 by Dr. Emmanuel F. Calairo, Cavite Studies Center director and Sa Bagwis ng Sining Mga Nangaunang Manunulat ng Kabite by Dr. Efren R. Abueg, CSC writer-in-residence were introduced to the public at the Ground Flr. of Aklatang Emilio Aguinaldo, June 24. The book launching was sponsored by the Cavite Studies Center and the Cavite Historical Society in cooperation with AEA, DLSU-D.
Edukasyong Pampubliko , as reviewed by Dr. Ricardo T. Jose gives a critical and detailed analysis of the educational system in Cavite during the first part of the American regime. It was written in the perspective of a Filipino writer who regarded education as a tool for change or development. Sa Bagwis ng Sining discusses the lives and literary masterpieces of two groups of Cavite writers. The first group offered their lives and works in their quest in bringing out freedom. The next made use of literature in their own individual way to achieve different results.
Former Prime Minister Cesar E.A. Virata, CHS president gave a short message stressing on the importance of enhancing one's knowledge on information concerning our local history and knowing our roots which are needed in strengthening the country. Dr. Estrellita Gruenberg, DLSU-D executive vice president remarked on the difficulty in the conception and birthing of intellectual offspring (the books). Dr. Paulo Campos, founder and first president of the Cavite Historical Society graced the occasion and was among Mr. Virata, Dr. Veronidia L. De Leon, vice president for Academics and Research and Dr. Barbara Lupisa, Social Studies supervisor in unveiling Dr. Calairo's work.
Dr. Vivencio Jose, UP professor in Philippine Studies gave Dr. Abueg's work a review. He, together with Dr. Gruenberg and Mrs. Sonia Gementiza, AEA director participated in the unveiling of Dr. Abueg's book.
Dr. Abueg assured the audience of the publication of more books about Cavite . Dr. Calairo, on the other hand encouraged everybody to continue in searching and in learning about local history.
The program ended with the signing of books by both authors.
