Admission and Retention Policy 2006-2007

There is a common “Admission and Retention Policy” for all degree programs offered by the College of Science. Likewise, the College reserves the right to screen all applicants (shiftees and transferees) and in valid cases, refuse admission for some. It also reserves the right to set and identify priority students.

1. Freshmen

College of Science conforms with the institutional policy in admitting freshmen applicant ( see Student Handbook, page 9, Section 3.1).

2. Shiftees

2.1 Applicants should meet the following requirements:

• grade point average (GPA) of at least 85% or its equivalent
• passing the qualifying exam administered by the concerned department
• passing the interview conducted by the Dean/Associate Dean

2.2 Applicants should submit the following documents for evaluation:

• for those coming from COS: complete set of class cards and shifting form duly signed by the Dean/Associate Dean
• for those coming from other college: certification of grades from the Registrar’s office and shifting form duly signed by the Dean/Associate Dean

2.3 No fourth year students will be allowed to shift. Third year applicants, however, should have already completed YES program, Intro. to La Salle subjects and NSTP.

2.4 Applicants with failing grades may be allowed to shift provided they are not more than 15% of the total units completed.

2.5 Applicants will be allowed to shift from one COS degree program to another only once.

3. Transferees

3.1 Applicants should meet the following requirements:

• grade point average (GPA) of at least 85% or its equivalent with no failing grades in both academic and non academic subjects
• passing the psychometric and entrance examinations administered by the admissions office
• passing the interview conducted by the Dean/Associate Dean

32. Applicants should submit the following documents for evaluation:

• official transcript of record from previous school
• certificate of good moral character
• letter of recommendation from at least two former professors

3.3 College of Science does not accept third or fourth year transferees.

3.4 All transferees will be automatically placed on academic probation for at least one
semester. Once they perform well in academics and deportment they will be
considered regular students in the succeeding semesters.

4. Academic Probation

Any failure automatically places a student under academic probation which is applicable only up to a maximum of 23 accumulated units. Hence, the student will be subjected to the following conditions:

• issuance of waiver to be signed by either parent or guardian in the presence of the Dean/Associate Dean. This is done prior to enrolment.
• deloading of units while on academic probation
• removal of failures based on the institutional policy (see Student Handbook, page 24, Section 11, Letter B)

5. Disqualification from the Program

A student who accumulates 24 units of failures at the end of a semester of any school year is automatically disqualified from the program. Once disqualified, the concerned student is not allowed to shift to any other COS degree program.
