The Physical Education Department of DLSU-D seeks to promote the physical development and well - being of students through organized sports, gymnastics, dance and aquatics. Specifically, it aims to: (1) help students develop and maintain physical fitness; (2) provide opportunities for development of desirable social habits, (3) train DLSU-D athletes who will represent the university in provincial, national and international sports competitions.
The department will train its players to become world - class athletes. These athletes will be equipped with appropriate skills, and imbued with wholesome values and attitudes.
Special features of the 5-year sports development program:
In order to achieve its goals, the department formulated a 5-year sports development program (1999-2004) directed towards achieving excellence in the field of sports. The special features of the program include: (1) recruitment - identification and recruitment of quality athletes and coaches; (2) training and development - exposure to seminars, training program evaluation; (3) character development; (4) scholarship - provision of financial assistance to qualified athletes; (5) infrastructure - construction of sports facilities (tennis courts, multi-purpose covered court, diving facilities, wooden basketball court); and (6) strengthening of the intramurals program. |
