QUALIFYING EXAMINATION GUIDELINES

Qualifying Exam is a comprehensive evaluation of student academic proficiency to be able to determine whether he or she has the intellectual and attitudinal capability to finish Engineering and Architecture Programs.

There are two (2) elements that compose the Qualifying Exam:

1. The Qualifying Exam itself, which measures students' accumulated academic proficiency.

2. The GPA , which considers students' balanced learning behavior in all subject matters.

BENEFITS OF QUALIFYING EXAMINATION TO ENGINEERING STUDENTS

Qualifying Exam is being conducted for the purpose of achieving better academic program offshoot. This aims to motivate students to study earnestly and improve their academic proficiency.

On the part of the university, this would ensure well-equipped graduates aside from better board examination performance.

EXAMINEES

All incoming third year students of these programs are required to take the qualifying exam.

1. Electronics Communications Engineering
2. Electrical Engineering
3. Mechanical Engineering
4. Environment and Sanitary Engineering
5. Civil Engineering
6. Architecture
7. Transferees or Shifters of good moral character and who have completed the required major subjects in the first two (2) years of the program where he or she intended to shift or transfer.

POSSIBLE REASONS FOR DISQUALIFICATION OF AN EXAMINEE OR INVALIDATION OF RESULT

1. If the student fails to finish all the necessary major subjects including mathematics and physical sciences intended to be completed during first year and second year of the mentioned programs.

2. If the student accumulates more than twenty-four (24) units of failure in all subjects as written in the student handbook.

3. If an examinee is caught cheating or doing action, which would greatly, affect other examinees, he or she would automatically receive a grade of 0.00.

4. If an examinee is found under the influence of drugs and/or liquor while taking the exam, his or her result would automatically be canceled.

REVIEW CLASSES

Review classes are to be conducted a month before the Qualifying Exam Schedule. Attendance in the said review is voluntary.

The chair, with the help of respective program coordinators, prepares the review and its schedule.

PASSING SCORE IN THE QUALIFYING EXAM

Qualifying Examination Scores are computed using this formula:

GPA (40%) + Qualifying Exam Result (60%) = Total Rating

            Example:

                        Qualifying Examination Result:   67%
                        Grade Point Average:                 1.75

- Based on the student handbook, 1.75 is equivalent to 71 to 73. The higher equivalent would be considered in the computation.

Therefore:

73 (0.40) + 67 (0.60) =  69.2  (PASSED)

FAILURE TO QUALIFY

A student who fails in the exam is advised to look for another program where they are qualified to enroll.
