Academic Policies

SY 2006-2007

RETENTION / DISQUALIFICATION

    1. A student must maintain a GPA of 2.75 to continue in the MBA Program.
    2. A student will be disqualified from the program if:
      1. cumulative GPA is below 2.75;
      2. a grade of 2.25 in any two subjects with credits is incurred;
      3. a grade lower than 2.25 is incurred

•  A student may re-enroll a failed subject (2.25) only once to continue in the program.

ABSENCES

A student is allowed a maximum of three (3) absences in each subject per term. Beyond this, the student should request in writing (cc: The Dean) from his/her professor(s) to excuse him/her absence. The professor(s) may impose additional requirements on the student involved. Failure to observe this policy means incurring a grade of 0.0, which will be reflected in the student's transcript of records.

DROPPING A SUBJECT

A student who wishes to drop a subject should do so during the dropping period, which is two weeks from the first day of classes of each trimester. He/She should follow the procedure for dropping, using the appropriate form.

SHIFTING TO ANOTHER PROGRAM  

A student is allowed to shift to another MBA Program only once provided that he/she has acquired a one (1) year residency in his/her present program.

EXAMINATION  

No permit, no exam policy is implemented during the final examination. A student is required to settle his/her accounts before taking the final examinations and present his/her final examination permit to his/her professor for the latter's signature.

CLASS CARD DISTRIBUTION  

A student must present his/her final examination permit duly signed by authorized faculty member(s) to the GSB secretary in claiming his/her class card at the end of each term.

TERMINAL PAPER

•  Regular and Techno-MBA programs

Each student under these programs should enroll for a 6-unit credit in Thesis Writing after completion of all academic requirements. Thesis development is divided into two parts namely, proposal writing (Chapters 1 to 3) and thesis completion (Chapters 4 and 5). The term in which the student first enrolls in thesis writing should be devoted to proposal writing. He/She is assigned with an adviser who will guide him/her through to proposal defense at the end of the enrolled term. Then the student should enroll again in the succeeding term to complete the thesis. Proposal and final thesis defense are made before a panel of three faculty members.

•  Management Research Paper

This is the final requirement for Executive MBA students. This is actually a strategic management analysis for a corporation. The candidate should enroll this 3-unit non-classroom subject. Immediately after enrollment, he/she will be assigned a strama coach. The candidate is also required to present his completed paper before a panel of three faculty members.

HONOR LIST  

    1. A GPA of at least 3.5 with no grade lower than 3.0 is required to qualify in the honor list. The GPA should cover at least 12 units or 4 subjects with credits taken in consecutive trimesters. A student who believes that he/she qualifies to be in the honor list should fill out the Dean's List Verification Form, which could be downloaded from the GSB Portal. The form should be submitted to the GSB Dean's office with an attached photocopy of his/her class cards.
    2. A candidate for graduation shall receive academic honors if his/her GPA falls within the following range provided no grade lower than 3.0 in any subject with credit including thesis is incurred.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

    1. A student is given five (5) years residency period to earn his/her MBA degree. Leaves of absence filed during this period are for monitoring purposes only and are counted as part of the five-year residency period.
    2. A student who is enrolled in either Thesis Writing or Management Research Paper on the fifth year and is not able to defend it on the third term of the same year should write a request for re-admission in the ensuing school year. As a matter of CHED policy, he/she will be required to enroll 6 refresher credit units and additional 3 refresher credit units per year starting the seventh year.
