Pareja, Cabanias present papers in int’l lit conference

Highlights:
Languages and Literature Department faculty Dr. Teresita Pareja and Student Admissions Office Director Juanito Cabanias delivered their papers on reading and literature during the international conference in literature on Feb. 1-3 at the Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU).

Entitled “Reading Asia, Forging Identities in Literature: Policy, Research, and Practice,” the conference looks into Asia’s reading experience—what Asia reads, the forms in which literature flowers, Asia’s interests on the literary scene, and the analogues of culture, politics, and the postcolonial struggle that Asia gleans from literature.

Highlights:
Cavite Studies Center (CSC) launched its second batch of publications on Jan. 26 at the Aklatang Emilio Aguinaldo.

Published by the Cavite Historical Society (CHS), the new books include Anting-anting sa Kabite, Pandarayuhan, and The Modernization of Cavite: From the Mid-1950’s up to the Present.

COS wins 2006 CHED HEI Research Program

Highlights:
Vice President for Academics and Research Veronidia de Leon, College of Science (COS) Dean Cristina Salibay, and University Faculty Research Office (UFRO) Director Jacqueline Morta accept the award Best Research Program in Region IV-A given by the Commission on Higher Education as recognition of COS's research program entitled Academic Center of Excellence in Biodiversity Conservation, Environmental Management and Sanitation in the Province of Cavite (ACE in BIOMES of Cavite) during the 2006 CHED Best HEI Research Program Awarding Ceremony held at the Philippine International Convention Center on Jan. 25.

COS was also awarded with Php 300,000.00 and plaques of recognition. Nominated by the UFRO, ACE in BIOMES of Cavite focuses on the researches conducted by COS faculty and students on Mts. Palaypalay/Mataas na Gulod National Park, Imus River, and other local communities in Cavite.

Highlights:
The Languages and Literature Department and the Language Learning Center (LLC) held a national conference on Jan. 20 at the Severino De Las Alas Hall Auditorium.

Conference speakers are headed by Dr. Rose Bumatay of the University of the Philippines, Dr. Ma. Luz Vilches of Ateneo de Manila University, Dr. Remedios Miciano of De La Salle University-Manila, and Dr. Cecilia Mendiola of Philippine Normal University.

SSD, CLA hold seminar on teaching social sciences

Highlights:
The Social Sciences Department, in cooperation with the Cavite Studies Center and the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) Graduate Studies, held a national seminar on the current trends in teaching history and political science on Jan. 20 at the Tanghalang Julian Felipe.

Speakers were Dr. Jose Victor Torres, a history professor from the University of Santo Tomas (UST)and Dr. Jaime Mendoza Jimenez, a political science and development studies professor also from UST.

The keynote address was given by CLA Dean Mark Edwin Aspra. The seminar was participated in by social sciences teachers.
