CBA reps present papers in Thailand
Through the years, colleges have been actively participating in
DLSU-D’s thrust of intensifying academic research, and the College
of Business Administration (CBA) is among them. Recently, two of its faculty members presented their papers during the 7th Annual South East Asian Association for Institutional Research held at the
Assumption University Bang-na Campus, Bangkok, Thailand.
Allied Business Department (ABD) Chair Don Malabanan and ABD faculty Dr. Felda Olimpia Peña joined other academicians,
researchers, policy-makers, practitioners, and managers in higher education institutions from the Southeast Asian region and nearby countries in the international conference.
Peña discussed her University Faculty Research Office-funded paper on the skills and competencies of DLSU-D business graduates of schoolyear 2003-2004 as perceived by educators and the industry. Her paper attempted to determine the existence of congruence or incongruence of what is taught to the business graduates and what is needed by the business sector.
Results revealed that an over-all congruence exists between the perceptions of the business sector on the competencies developed in DLSU-D and the competencies the CBA graduates contribute to their jobs. However, there are incongruences in certain knowledge and skills needed by the business sector and the knowledge and skills actually contributed by the DLSU-D CBA graduates to their jobs.
On the other hand, Malabanan presented a paper on the
“Profitability Analysis of Degree Programs for DLSU-D.” Using the “cost analysis” as a starting point, his paper presented the profits derived from each student for each degree by deducting the cost originally computed from the revenues per student per degree. He discussed that the study is beneficial in providing a workable framework to the University in analyzing historical trends of average costs, revenues, and profit. It could also a basis for allocating funds for different units and for setting school fees.
Peña, together with Planning Director Jose Mario Maximiano, is scheduled for another international paper presentation sponsored by the Commission on Higher Education in October.
