CSC Director obtains highest merits  from 2 distinguished groups

2006 is a rewarding year for Dr. Emmanuel F. Calairo, Director, Cavite Studies Center . He was acclaimed as one of the 12 prominent citizens of Cavite . On August 31, 2006 at Tagaytay International Convention Center (TICC),  he received the 2006 Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo Outstanding Award Achievement in the area of   History and Literary Arts, the utmost civilian recognition given by the Provincial Government of Cavite now on its 4 th year. He is one of the foremost historians known for his role and involvement in promoting local history. He was one among those who pioneered cultural awareness through organizing Annual Seminars on Cavite History and Culture since 1998.

A keen and an adept researcher, he had written 16 books and several historical and academic journals, likewise, has consistently been promoting linkages with educational institutions and  government and non-government agencies to carry out the thrust of the center.

Simultaneous to the said event, it was beyond his hope that he will receive a call proclaiming that his recently published book Edukasyong Pampubliko_ Ang Karanasan ng Cavite (1818-1913) won the revered National Book Award given by the Manila Critics Circle . To note, he was also bestowed with the notable Lorenzo Tañada CHIMES ( Common Good, Honesty, Integrity, Meritocracy, Excellence and Service) Award  March 8 of this year. His other renowned professional awards include: Sarao-Osteria Memorial lecture Series 2006, DLSU-D Professorial Chair in Social Science(2001), and The Geronimo B. de Los Reyes Distinguished Professorial Chair in Cavite and Philippine History (2005).

Above these recognitions, Sir Manny heeds his mission as God's vision_ a service rendered to many. For him, t he challenge that is tied with those awards is to simply pursue what he has started.

Honed by the brilliance of his Alma Mater, University of the Philippines-Diliman where he finished both Master of Arts in Teaching major in Social Studies in 1996 and Doctor of Philosophy Major in History in 2003, Dr. Calairo is an exemplar of humility, discipline and commitment. Having been an ordinary faculty of DLSU-Manila from 1996-1998, he is up to now convinced that his appointment to DLSU-D in 1996 as Cavite Studies Center Consultant was a providence realized through the late Br. Andrew Gonzalez, FSC. He has been conscientiously serving as the Director of Cavite Studies Center for almost 9 years, concurrently a faculty of the Social Science Department since 1998 and used to be the UFRO Director from SY 2005-2006.

Having been asked of the innermost drive that inspires him despite the rigorous nature of his chosen domain, it is his belief of the need to search for truth.  He asserts, “ Kailangan lumitaw ang katotohanan; kung ‘di ka kikilos, pano na sila?” He furthers that if without exhaustive research and conscientious writing, great people, great deeds of the past will not be known to the present and the future, since history is reflective of one's identity.

With all his persistence, ingenuity and devotion marked in his achievements, Dr. Calairo is a true Lasallian and an ideal Caviteño who exemplifies Cavite 's vision:

                        Makasaysayang Cavite.
                        Lupain ng bayaning mamamayan.
                        Buo ang loob sa pagbabago.
                        Matagumpay sa Pandaigdigang larangan.
