Going
the extra mile This is what College of Business Administration (CBA) Dean Willington Onuh said regarding his recent visit to St. Mary's College of California (SMCC) as a visiting scholar at the School of Economics and Business Administration (SEBA). Amidst his task of being an administrator, a teacher, and a participant in various meetings, Dr. Onuh has still managed to do research and presentations. He would always submit researches to national and international academic institutions. According to Dr. Onuh, that’s how a faculty should be: to be able to deepen knowledge and be able to transfer that expertise to students, a faculty should be interested in research. SMCC lauded him for his paper presentation and lectures. Entitled “Employment and Overtime Hours of Adjustment: Evidence from Food Manufacturing Establishments in CALABARZON Philippines,” his paper delved on the flexibility of employment and overtime hours of work in the food manufacturing firms located within CALABARZON by using vector auto regression and an average annual time series data. As part of the visit, Dr. Onuh, together with an instructor from SMCC, delighted the students with his lectures on Labor Economics to undergraduate upper division Economics class, and Managerial Economics to Masters in Business Administration class. According to him, the students were very curious and very independent and well-mannered during his lecture. On the other hand, being an official representative of the DLSU-D, Dr. Onuh signed the memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the representative of the SEBA SMCC Dr. Roy Allen. Effective for three years after the signing, the MOU aims to promote and expand international understanding to both universities through stimulating and supporting educational, professional, and intercultural activities and projects among its students, faculty, and the respective communities that support them. It also states that the two universities will work on developing an International Lasallian MBA degree or BA in International Business. The visit lasted for one month, from April 11 to May 2008. Engaging in research is indeed not really tough for a faculty who goes an extra mile. "With the leadership that we have here in our University, we can strengthen research and other academic endeavors," Dr. Onuh said in closing. ::
