Even grasshoppers and ants know how to share

Just like the scene in the 1980s film Ang Mga Kuwento ni Lola Basyang, the Zaguan of the Museo De La Salle (MDLS) became a venue for children of DLSU-D faculty and staff to listen to the story of Annie D. Ant, when it hosted Hora Del Cuento on Aug. 2. The Museum Docents (MD) Society, the student volunteer core of the Museo, came up with a puppet show to breathe life to the story.

Written by Carmelita Ballesteros and illustrated by Jo Ann Bereber, Annie
D. Ant is a picture storybook of an ant, a grasshopper, and other animals that survived El Niño through selfless giving and sharing. The book, which was personally chosen by the members of the MD Society, coincidentally is the first title of Panday-Isip Publishing House, Inc.—a newly established publishing company whose primary objective is the production of socially relevant children’s books. According to MDLS Tours and Program Supervisor Cecille Gelicame, [Annie D. Ant is a] very timely story; it teaches the kids about frugality, compassion, and faith in God.

Hora Del Cuento is a monthly program of the MDLS, happening every first Friday of the month at 10am-12nn. The program aims to encourage young children to visit museums to discover a different kind of fun and excitement and learning in a museum environment. Aside from the story telling activity, the program also offers art workshop for kids and a tour of the Museo.
