This is what Religious Education Deparment faculty and Balik-Aral Program Coordinator Danny Alegroso said about the recent result of the Alternative Learning System Accreditation and Equivalency Tests (ALS A&E) in which 36 Balik-Aral students passed.

Thirty-two students will be promoted to college, while four will be promoted to high school. Passers eligible for high school may opt to continue their secondary education under Balik-Aral or may undergo formal schooling, while those who qualified for college may avail of the University’s Scholarship Program for Educational Assistance and Development (SPREAD). “The program offers 10 SPREAD slots for the qualified students,” said Alegroso.

Balik-Aral is one of the outreach programs of the University under the College of Education. It aims to provide education for underprivileged adults and out-of-school youth. Balik-Aral carry on its goal through faculty volunteers who offer their time to teach Balik-Aral students. Among the subjects taught are English, Math, Science, Makabayan, and Filipino. They are also given knowledge on technology through computer lessons. To enhance the students’ spirituality, they are taught values education and given recollection workshop every semester. Classes last for one schoolyear.
