LCDC’s relief drive is still on the go

For the past weeks, DLSU-D has been very grateful for the overwhelming response of the Lasallian community to help the victims of typhoon Ondoy. Faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni, families, and friends have given donations and willingly shared their time and effort. Despite the suspension of classes on Sept. 30 until Oct. 2, relief operations, led by Lasallian Community Development Center (LCDC), were still on the move and donations kept pouring in.

In Cavite, the University, in partnership with De La Salle Health Sciences Institute, has distributed family packs in Brgy. St. Peter and Brgy. Sta. Lucia in Dasmariñas, Brgy. San Juan I in Ternate, and Brgy. Maliksi, Aniban in Bacoor. On Oct. 8, a team of volunteers made their way to Taytay, Rizal where it was still flooded waist-deep. There, the volunteers waded through the flood and moved from house to house in order to reach out to the families. As of Oct. 9, LCDC has a total of Php130,666.94 cash donations and various items such as rice, canned goods, noodles, biscuits, diapers, and old clothes, among others. Family packs were also given by De La Salle University-Manila, De La Salle Zobel, and Brightways Academy.

Right now, the Center is planning for the rehabilitation needs of affected schools. The Lasallian community is encouraged to continue sharing monetary donations and start giving school supplies like schoolbags, paper, pencils, pens, crayons, and notebooks, among others.
